The Penelope Barker House Easter Event

Bring your children to have their Easter picture taken with an 18th Century Easter Bunny at one of the most photographed spots in Edenton on the porch overlooking Edenton Bay at the Penelope Barker House Welcome Center. (FREE - All pictures to be taken with parents own camera or cell phone, sorry no professionals.)

Find a special gift at the Easter Market on the Barker House Lawn including bake goods, book birdhouses, whimsical cake stands, Easter plants and other fun Easter items all available for purchase in support of some of Edenton's favorite non-profit organizations.

you can also have your children participate in Easter egg decorating with the purchase of a keepsake paper mache Easter egg. Tell your family and friends!

Historically Fit: Yoga in the Courthouse

At this special monthly yoga class, you can improve your flexibility and strength in a beautiful historic and unique setting! The class is designed for all levels - even beginners - and is led by several local Edenton yoga instructors. Traveling and don't have your yoga mat? Not a problem. There will be extra mats available on a first come, first serve basis. After you are refreshed and relaxed, improve your mind as well, and take a guided tour of the building and learn its rich history!

Boogie on Broad with The Embers

Family-Friendly Street Dance on South Broad with dancing to The Embers, widely considered a musical MARVEL and have laid the groundwork for what has become known as Beach Music in the Carolinas, Virginias, the gulf coast region of North America and every beach in between. This great event is sponsored by Destination Downtown Edenton and will Celebrate NC Beer Month with including the offering of NC Craft Beers.

Historic Edenton Pilgrimage of Homes and Countryside

Guests tour 12-15 of Edenton’s finest private homes, all at least 100 years old, hosted by docents in period costume. This event has been a North Carolina tradition since 1949, presented biennially. Horse-drawn carriage rides, concerts, lectures, exhibits, special meals, and much more will be a part of the festivities. The public historic sites are open with special events at no charge.

Pilgrimage Open Studio Weekend at Sound Shore Pottery

Local Edenton Potter, Frank Miglorie, will open his studio to the public on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. The studio is located at 1222 Sound Shore Drive, Edenton, NC. Frank will be working throughout the day demonstrating the various aspects of the art of pottery making.

With Wedding Season around the corner, the studio is filled with new pottery featuring several new glazes and designs that Frank has developed since living in North Carolina. During your visit you will be able to see how he has integrated into his designs elements from nature that are so much a part of the landscape in the coastal area of North Carolina.

"Music by the Bay at the Penelope Barker House"

Do you like music and sometimes have little to do on Sunday afternoon? So do many others just like you.

Great News! The Edenton Historical Commission is hosting "Music by the Bay at the Penelope Barker House".

Beginning in April 2015, the Barker House Lawn alongside picturesque Edenton Bay will be the setting for monthly music concerts every 3rd Sunday afternoon from April through September. The musical groups will perform a variety of music: Jazz, Gospel, Americana, Blues, Bluegrass and Classic Rock and Roll. Student groups from area schools will also be invited to perform.

These events are FREE to attend so "bring your own chairs and picnics", first-come to get a spot on the lawn, so come early and make a day of it.

5th Annual Edenton-Chowan Kiwanis 5K

Historic Edenton with its 18th Century Historic Buildings, Tree Lined Streets and Friendly Faces becomes the footprint for this year's event. Registration takes place at the Historic Edenton State Historic Site, 108 North Broad Street. A scholarship for an aspiring college student becomes a reality with funds raised.

The People's Choice Exhibit

Each November, The Chowan Arts Council hold an open contest for its members. They are invited to enter up to three pieces of art that have not been previously shown. At the opening reception, members in attendance vote for their favorites. The following April, these 3 winners are featured artists for the People's Choice Exhibit.

By popular vote: John Gagnon paints in oil, Al Reynolds is a wood carver, and Jane Perry paints in oils.

Join them to enjoy good company and view their latest works.
