Outdoor Recreation

Nestled on the shores of the Albemarle Sound, Edenton is very rich in
natural assets.  Sailing, Fishing, Canoeing, Kayaking, Birdwatching and
Beautiful Sunsets await you. 

Getting out on the water - launch sites for canoe, kayaks and small boats
within our county are Cannons Ferry Road off Hwy 32, Under the Chowan
River Bridge - Hwy 17, Midway Drive off of Soundside Road.

Street, - Suite B.  Features self-guided canoe trails.  Some handicapped
accessible sties.  Open year round, 24 hours, seven days a week.

East Coast Flatwater Canoe and Kayak Races happen Saturday, June 16th 
in the morning with registration at 8:30 am.  This is the 7th year for the
sanctioned races.  The 4-H Center out of Columbia will be here to assist
all levels of participants with on-water and on-land demos, followed by 
guided paddles to Queen Anne and Pembroke Creeks.  Nature paddles during 
the morning as well.  Entertainment by very talented local musicians will begin around 2 pm and continue through the early evening.  There is a small 
participant cost for racers that will include their T-Shirt but all the rest of 
the events and paddles are free to the public.  This coming year will also 
feature some arts and craft vendors along with the many outfitters.
So either bring your boat or just yourselves and enjoy!

Sail into the South's Prettiest Town.  Newly constructed slips with are available
for transient boaters, electric hookups, and restroom and shower facility.  
A two-night complimentary stay can be arranged by calling the Town of
Edenton or visit the website.  After arriving, restaurants, shopping, tours from
the Visitor Center, gallery exhibits at the Arts Council are all within walking
distance.

Sailing event for one-class design boats.  Tanzers, Windmills, Sunfish come
together for a two-day event annually in the summer.  The Town of Edenton
and the Edenton Yacht Club jointly sponsor this event.  Races begin at noon-
time on Saturday, followed by dinner on the Barker House Lawn and 
continue on Sunday morning for the Tanzers and Windmills followed by
an award luncheon.  Sunfish awards are given at the dinner on Saturday

Coastal League Baseball takes place in June, July and early August.  An

Linear parks usually located along natural areas such as rivers, creeks or
tributaries providing opportunities for active & passive recreation such as
walking, jogging, biking & enjoying nature.

Open Bass Tournaments every Sunday April - September with two open Bass
Tournaments per year on the first Saturday in June and November.  Regional
and National Tournaments also take place, normally in the fall of the year. A
natural area with a board walk has been constructed next to the center where
paddlers can have easy access. October 6 - 8, 2005, the North Carolina Bass 
Federation State Championship will be held in Edenton.  This tournament
qualifies the top twelve fishermen who will go on to compete in the Divisional
Tournament with teams in the Southeast like South Carolina, Georgia, Florida,
etc.
