Taylor Theatre

Broad Street
This
Colonial-Revival/Neo-Classical blended style theatre was built in 1925 by
Charles Collins Benton. In 1990 the chandelier that had once served
as the light source for the theatre was moved to the Granville Queen
Inn.
The Taylor Theatre
was built after 71 Edentonians created the Edenton Auditorium Company in
1916. They bought the land upon which the theatre was built in 1917
and sold it six years later to Samuel Taylor. The theatre opened in
September of 1925 and continued operating under the original owners until
1960, when Mrs. Taylor sold the building to
W. J. P. Earnhardt
Enterprises. In the 1980s the Theatre became Taylor Twin Theatre,
named so because it had been divided into two identical theatres. It
closed in 1987, but reopened in 1990.
