 E King Street
The Courthouse Green, circa 1712
The Courthouse green has been under town ownership since 1712, but was used
for a variety of functions well before that date. In 1767 it was used
as a drill ground, and since that date many memorials, celebrations and
monuments have utilized the lush lawn. A marble memorial lays at the
foot of the southern lawn in commemoration of Joseph Hewes, three tablets
exist on the Courthouse, the first dating back to 1910, and a bronze teapot
sits at the foot of the lawn honoring the Edenton Tea Party.
