The Hatch-Bruer-Davis House, circa 1744
This beautiful historic home was built around
1744 for Andre Richard. Richard had bought the lot three years
earlier. One year later, the house was sold to his son-in-law,
Edmund Hatch. Hatch changed the house to a two-story dwelling and
enlarged the plan of the original house horizontally as well. It was
most likely remodeled yet again during the 1780s, by renter Thomas
Hankins. In 1800, the house came under the ownership of King Luten.
It was then that the lot tripled in size and the home tripled in
value.
In 1922 the house was purchased by Junius and
Margaret Davis who had the house remodeled yet again, this time by
Mr. Rudolph, an architect, and Frank Fred Muth, the
contractor.
The Hatch-Bruer-Davis house is the oldest home
in Edenton.
