101 E Water Street
The Homestead, circa 1771

This historic home was built in 1771 by Robert Smith.  In 1777 it was sold to Stephen Cabarrus and eventually fell into the hands of Josiah Collins, Sr.  Called "The Homestead" since 1842, this home features a magnificent view of the Albemarle Sound.  In 1881, the Homestead came into the ownership of Frank and Rebecca Wood.  The Wood's erected many buildings along East King Street which remain today, and they are also responsible for the construction and placement of the 1910 bronze teapot which attracts so many visitors today.
