Edenton Baptist Church, circa 1916
This Colonial Revival structure was built
between 1916 and 1920, by J. M. McMicheal. While it is recorded that
construction began on March 7, 1916, the Church wasn't completed until
June 27, 1920, largely due to WWI.
The Edenton Baptist Church congregation had
been officially organized since 1817, and built its first church soon
after. The original church burned down in 1870 and a new one was
constructed in 1875.
Edenton Baptist Church was at one time the
home to Reverend Thomas Meredith, who started the printing of the still
active Biblical Recorder, and who is the namesake of Meredith College.
